Paper-Plane Airport
Come and test your piloting skills at the museum’s Paper-Plane Airport. Fold your own paper plane in the Paper Workshop - we have all the materials ready. You can use your own imagination or try one of the fun folding templates - we actually have the recipe for the world record-holding aeroplane.
Follow the Go To Gate sign to the airstrip where you will be checked in by the air traffic controller - remember your boarding pass from the museum’s activity suitcase.
Did you know that the longest-flying paper aeroplane was designed by a man named John Collins, who set the world record in 2012? The paper plane was thrown by American football star Joe Ayoob and flew an impressive 69.14 metres before landing on the turf.
Ready, steady, fly!
We register your flight on the
app Useeum so you can keep track of who holds the record of the day. Download it via the QR code to see your position in the competition.
Blokhus Paper Harbour
Fold fairytale paper boats like in Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale “The Steadfast Tin Soldier”. In the story of the one-legged tin soldier, who is unhappily in love with a dancer, two boys find the tin soldier on the street: “Look! There is a tin soldier lying there. He is going sailing. And then they made a boat out of a newspaper, put the tin soldier in the middle of it, and now he is sailing down the gutter.” H.C. Andersen wrote.
Fold your own paper boat using the origami technique - we have fun templates and different papers for you to try. You can launch your boat right away or develop it further by decorating with coloured paper and flags or writing wishes on the boat before it sails out into the world. You can also experiment with a bungee motor, straws, and stick navigation devices!
Did you know that origami is an ancient Japanese paper-folding art that originated in China? The goal of origami is to create with a single piece of paper, a representation of an object geometrically folded shapes and patterns, without the use of glue or cutting tools.
