Paper to the sky
The exhibition could be seen at the museum until 01.01.2023
In 2014, Bit Vejle created an altarpiece for a newly built church in Norway. The altarpiece was cut in half and took 1 year to create. The original, which is white, now hangs in Sverresborg Church, and the second is painted red and has toured the world in renowned museums in the Bit Vejle travelling exhibition Scissors for a Brush. The altarpiece is a highly detailed narrative of human life from the cradle to the grave and has, in its imagery and narrative technique, clear references back to 12th-13th century frescoes and a long art historical tradition. The same applies to a work Bit Vejle created for Norway’s most important cathedral, Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim and the work The Queen from Urnes Stave Church.
The works in Paper to the Sky, create contemplation and reflection with their evocative detail and figurative imagery, where the focal point is the common human experience of faith, hope, and love that we can all relate to.
Paper to the Sky will inspire and stimulate understanding of our culture (heritage), the values of Danish society, and the many facets of life.
Paper to the Sky is an exhibition that guides you through our art museum’s permanent exhibition with presence and reflection, with new experiences in store. The exhibition can be experienced on your own or with a guide. Groups, church councils, confirmation students, clubs, etc. can participate in theme tours and workshops.
